The tradition to celebrate the start of the harvest in Navarra is done in Olite during the first weekend of September. During this weekend, Bodegas Ochoa had more than 300 visitors in their open day celebrated the 3rd of September. Everybody who came in could visit the winery, enjoy a grape from the new vintage, taste wines made by the winery and participate in a special Barrels Race. Among the activities, all of them free of charge, there was a blind tasting with black wine glasses. You would taste 3 Ochoa wines and geuss which one it was. The winners received a box of 3 bottles of wine: Ochoa blanco, Ochoa Moscatel and Ochoa Tempranillo. 
Participants in the barrels race (3 people in each race with one barrel each) had to compete to win a bottle of Ochoa Tempranillo. On August 30th, Bodegas Ochoa started the 2011 harvest with white grapes of Viura and Chardonnay. Some days later, the harvest will continue with the varieties Moscatel, Merlot, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano. Harvest expectations this year are around 800.000 kilos of grapes. 

With these 7 grape varieties, that Bodegas Ochoa has in their vineyard in Traibnuenas, approximately 650.000 bottles of wine will be made for further consumption. Javier Ochoa, director and owner of Bodegas Ochoa said "we are expecting a very good harvest this year. The sanitary level of the grapes is excellent, with a advanced ripening of 10 days and a good relation acidity-sugar level". 

Bodegas Ochoa, based in Olite, is one of the oldest family wineries in Navarra. Despite the current history started in 1845, Ochoa Family is linked with Navarra wine since the XIV century. Precisely, wine made by the major Ochoa de Ayanz was much appreciated by the Navarra kings Carlos II y Carlos III.
