In Bodegas Ochoa we aim to improve quality and so, we do continual research into vineyard and winery in order to offer the best quality to consumers.
Javier Ochoa has researched for years into the factors that determine the wine quality in order to obtain the highest potential from the different grape varieties. This enterprising spirit has taken him to experiment with innovative processes, especially in young and varietal wines. Thus, in 1998 Javier Ochoa was named in London member of the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino by Vinos de España (Wines of Spain) because of his contribution to the modernization of the wine industry in Navarre.
In 1994, with the support of the Center for the Technologic Industrial Development (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI)), Bodegas Ochoa became a pioneering winery producing a muscat white wine that stands out for its aromatic potential and its balance between sugar and acidity. This was our first project done with the help of the CDTI and the first R & D made by a Spanish wine cellar. Since then, we have developed five more that let us keep a very competitive position in domestic and international markets. The PYMES (initials for small and medium-sized companies) and specially in this industry, need the help of organizations like the CDTI that apart from giving financial help, offers assistance and advising during the whole innovative process.
Since then, we invest the 1% of our budget in research every year which has allowed us to complete the traditional method of the viti-vinicultural industry with the scientific knowledge; collaborate and cooperate with other companies, technological centres, institutions and universities; get new products to increase the range; and diversify our production.
Our last research programme has been the MdO (Moscato de Ochoa), a white fruity wine of a low alcohol content that fills the gap in the market. A good product is the result of a close collaboration between the producer and consumers. Here, the R & D projects are essential in order to satisfy customers.
