The colour of the wine
|
|
Through the sight we perceive the colour, the clearness and the brilliance of the wine. Besides, in the visual check we must observe the fluidity and the density, which we can notice spinning the glass.
When we leave the wine to stand, after swirling it, we will see a watery formation sliding down the glass wall making tears or trails. This indicates a higher or lower alcohol and glycerine content.
To appreciate the colour, it is necessary to tilt the glass over a white background. The surface of the liquid takes an oval shape that allows us to see better the colour and the nuance.
In white wines the colour nuances go from the pale yellow, almost white, with different greenish shades (colour of youth), to gold coloured and even maderized.
With regard to rosé wines, they evolve from the pink to the strawberry colour (reflection of youth), showing an apricot skin shade, in the case of the old rosés. The raspberry colour notices in Cabernet Sauvignon rosés.
The red wine colouring has an attractive and varied nuances range. The youth has purple shades and the mature are mauve with cherry gleams.
