At Bodegas Ochoa we are convinced that the quality of a good wine starts in the vineyard. True to our vision of work, we only work with grapes grown in our own vine stocks, planted, pruned and harvested by us. We believe that this is the only way to guarantee the quality of our wines.
We own 143 hectares of vineyards. Our oldest vines are located at the Montijo estate, next to our wine cellar, although most of the vines are grown at the El Bosque. Our vineyards come from the old vines of our ancestors. That’s why we have chosen the best vines to multiply the plants. The plantation frame is 3x1 metres (in rows three metres apart, with one metre between vines in the row) and the vines are planted facing south to provide an optimum leaf exposure to the sun.
Years of work, research and experimentation has proved us that, in order to produce a great wine, it is important to make a careful viticulture and to get a low yield at the vineyard. Health and ecology are also essential: we are making a complete viticulture, taking care of the land as our ancestors did, but at the same time, using the most advanced technology.
Wine comes from the land, that’s why we respect the vineyard and the environment applying the integral viticulture regime. It’s necessary not to break the ecological balance but to take advantage of new technologies and back up research, development and innovation projects that allow us to improve the quality of our products.
